Tour Description

This 2-hour guided walk begins near Trondheim’s historic harbor. From here, your guide leads you along the River Nidelven, passing the city’s iconic colorful wooden warehouses that once formed the heart of Trondheim’s trading life.

Along the way, you’ll hear fascinating Viking legends and traditional folklore, including stories of trolls said to turn to stone in sunlight.

In the charming district of Bakklandet, you’ll discover beautifully preserved wooden houses and learn how this former industrial area has transformed into one of Trondheim’s most beloved neighborhoods — and home to the world’s only bicycle lift.

Crossing the historic red Old Town Bridge into the city center, you pass the royal residence Stiftsgården before arriving at Market Square, where the statue of Viking King Olav Tryggvason stands.

The tour concludes at the magnificent Nidaros Cathedral, where your guide explains how this Gothic masterpiece, built over the burial site of Saint Olav from around 1070, shaped Norwegian identity and remains closely connected to ancient pilgrimage routes.

After the guided portion, you are free to explore the cathedral at your own pace, including its impressive interior, stained glass windows, and peaceful, sacred atmosphere.

This tour is ideal for history enthusiasts, travelers who prefer a relaxed walking pace in small groups, and anyone interested in Viking heritage and medieval architecture.
